The body’s wisdom
Most asana (yoga postures) are concerned with maintaining the health and movement of the spinal column. The spine is the core of our structure and also the core of our practice. The vertebral column holds us upright and provides a structure for our trunk and ribs which protect our internal organs. The spinal column houses are spinal cord. The series of natural and on-purpose curves allows for freedom in movement, the column to bear weight efficiently as well as act as a shock absorber. Movement should feel good and when it doesn’t, much of the time its because our spinal column isn’t doing what it does naturally because over time we’ve created poor postural habits. Our bodies are smarter than we are. Yoga is learning to listen to the deep wisdom housed inside our miraculous machines and find our way back to movement that feels good. May our wisdom grow from this practice we love.
