From Sunday to Monday

A teacher friend once told me, “Summer is like a weekend. June is Friday, July is Saturday and August is Sunday.” It would then follow that September is Monday! Even though my own children are grown and the school years are behind us, that school calendar impenetrable! I’m pretty positive I will always feel and enjoy the energy of it. Those were sometimes hard and often challenging years, but mostly they were fun and rewarding beyond measure; absolutely my very best years. Growing is beautifully messy but the view and perspective we gain is awesome! I have great kids who taught me, forgave me and allowed me to grow. I still do. I hope I honor them the same.

So, with August being Sunday and the way Sunday is surely about anticipating Monday, there are mixed emotions, anxious children, and anxious parents. There’s excitement and worry and maybe even a restlessness you can’t quite put words too. Yoga is exceptional at meeting us where we are, and even in the very center of our beautiful mess, gently whispering us back to the essence of being who we really are, in our ebb and flow, in our try and try again, our success and our failures. Life is a gift, we unwrap to open with every breath. In this life, we are astoundingly beautiful. Our practice heals our bodies, bettering hormone balance, reducing inflammation, settling our nervous systems, oxygenating our brains and powerfully aiding us in emotional regulation in our crazy modern lives. We also gain body, mind strength and adaptability, confidence to show up in the world well. Practicing in community is a powerfully healthy aspect to our well-being.  We belong together and when we practice together; when we move and breathe together, our bodies release feel good hormones. It’s science! We return to the mat time and time again as we learn to give to ourselves and the permission to truly feel good.

with love, Jill
